Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
